In the Mahabharata, Lord Krishna wanted to help Arjuna, who was doubting himself just before the Kurukshetra war. To bolster Arjuna’s confidence, He revealed His true identity as the Supreme God Vishnu, and manifested his “Virat Roop” by revealing all the avatars of Vishnu to Arjuna.
This is the most important moment in the epic, when Lord Krishna recited the speech of the Bhagavad Gita to Arjuna. He reminded Arjuna that the circumstances of war was an illusion and that grief was useless.
