Today is Guru Purnima, also known as Vyasa Purnima, which marks the birthday of Veda Vyasa, the legendary author of the Mahabharata. It is a day that is dedicated to spiritual and academic Gurus, who are evolved and enlightened humans, ready to share their wisdom. Vyasa was considered to be one of the seven Chiranjivis (immortals) who came in Dvapara Yuga to convert all the vedic knowledge into written form.
Vyasa stated that the poem is a raw rendition of humankind. The principle characteristics of righteousness, wealth, duty, desire and salvation amongst others can be found in the Mahabharata. But, whatever is not contained in this, will not be found anywhere.
