Devdutt Pattanaik, Indian mythologist, speaker, illustrator and author, in his book “Jaya – An Illustrated Retelling of the Mahabharata” talks about the core understanding of the Mahabharata. He believes that it is not about making the world a peaceful place, but about us being at peace with the world.
All Hindu rituals end with the chant “Shanti, shanti, shanti” (which means peace in Sanskrit), because the quest for peace is the ultimate goal for all existence. The peace is not external but internal, thus it is only when we attain inner peace that we can be at peace with the world.
