The Hanuman Chalisa is a poetic composition written by the great Saint Tulsidas, who was considered an incarnation of Saint Valmiki. It is believed that is was written when he was in a state of Samadhi. Chalisa means forty and the Hanuman Chalisa has 40 verses. It is believed that by chanting the Hanuman Chalisa it will remove negative vibrations and bring the divine wisdom of Hanuman to his devotees and keep them safe.

Thus the Kavacha Strotram is a prayer that is offered to the Lord by Prahlad for protection.
